One of the things I enjoyed the most out of the games was the the sense that something was out of place, even on seemingly normal scenes and places, and these books really manage to capture that uneasy feeling. These usually have a more dream-like feel to them rather than horror, fairly similar to Twin Peaks (which was also an inspiration for Silent Hill). Short story, but an interesting one about a broken marriage told from the perspective of the husband, trying to justify his actions and escape his guilt (if he has any). Definitely more of a traditional horror story rather than a psychological one, but pretty cool. Phantoms is a pretty interesting story about a deserted town and a few characters dealing with an unknown evil (sounds familiar?). Obvious choice, as Koontz is referenced in Silent Hill. As an alternative, the Kindle eBook is available now and can be read on any device with the free Kindle app. Some suggestions from the top of my head: Genre Fiction Buy new: 17.99 Get Fast, Free Shipping with Amazon Prime FREE Returns FREE delivery Thursday, December 8 if you spend 25 on items shipped by Amazon Select delivery location In Stock. The House of Leaves is on my reading list, hopefully I'll get my hands on it sooner rather than later.ĭidn't know about Old Age, but will definitely check out. I'm not a huge fan of the "but in space" thing, as I personally tend to find sci-fi settings a bit less relatable and immersive, but even then Solaris was a great read. I've read both Solaris and The Metamorphosis and completely agree that they feel similar to the Silent Hill games in tone. It has nothing to do with the series, but I swear it feels like the beginning of a Silent Hill game!įinally a good discussion topic in this subreddit! An old architect goes back to his hometown, meets with the attorney who took care of his divorce and reminisces about bad stuff that happened in the past. Old Age (Anton Chekhov): This is not a book, rather a short story, and I’m probably the only person in the world who thinks of Silent Hill when reads it. Danielewski): Explores a dark and obscure world hidden in a homely place to tell a story about characters that feel like flesh and blood. Probably because it frames the inexplicable transformation of a man into a monster in a way that welcomes interpretations of that event as a metaphor for mental illness. The Metamorphosis (Franz Kafka): To me, this book just tastes like Silent Hill. It’s basically the relationship between James and Maria, but in spaaaace! Solaris (Stanislaw Lem): Deeply inspired Silent Hill 2. I prefer the whole “depressing psychological mindfuck” aspect over the “cursed town horror”, but bring whatever you see fit! I’m currently looking for books that feel like Silent Hill or that would be interesting to fans of the series.
